Ingrid Lingaas Fossum is one of Norway’s most compelling langeleik players — the instrument is a close cousin of Iceland’s traditional langspil.
The instrument carries an unbroken 500-year tradition in Norway. Ingrid has taken it further than anyone before her: she is the first person in her country to earn a master’s degree with langeleik as her principal instrument at the Norwegian Academy of Music. At last November’s Folkelarm festival in Oslo, she received two awards: Norwegian Folk Musician of the Year and Best Solo Album of the Year for her solo album Eit halvt tusenår.
