HALLGRÍMSKIRKJA IN COLOUR
Opening of an art exhibition during a festive service at Hallgrímskirkja on the church' 40th anniversary of consecration
Ingi Hrafn Stefánsson has developed a special affection for Hallgrímskirkja and, for many years, has interpreted its appearance through a variety of artistic media and with great artistic insight. He visits the church at different times of day and in different seasons. Many of his works are based on photographs he has taken himself. With sincerity and affection, he paints lines and surfaces in richly nuanced colours, ranging from bold and vibrant to soft and delicate.
Ingi Hrafn works in the creative arts at Ás Studio and has also attended art courses offered by the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts and Fjölmennt. His work has attracted well-deserved attention, and since 2011 his art has been featured in various exhibitions, including Art Without Borders. Five of his works were selected for a touring exhibition held in Brussels and Helsinki. Earlier this year, two of Ingi Hrafn’s works were also selected for the exhibition Small City, Great City – Reykjavík in Art at Reykjavík Art Museum, Kjarvalsstaðir.
As Hallgrímskirkja celebrates the 40th anniversary of its
consecration, Ingi Hrafn Stefánsson is also celebrating his
own anniversary: he was three years old on the day the
church was consecrated, 26 October 1986.
The exhibition will officially open during a festive service on Sunday, 25 October 2026 at Hallgrímskirkja that starts at 11:00 and will be up for viewing until the beginning of Advent 2026.
