Could we live differently in our cities? 🏑

What could we learn from communities around the world that are experimenting with different ways of living together?

And what might some of those ideas look like here in Iceland?

Join us on 27 August at Hlemmur.Haus for a Totelly Evening exploring urban communal living, co-housing, ecovillages and different ways of creating home, connection and community.

This isn't a formal conference.

It's an evening to hear, share, question and connect.

🌍 Guest speaker β€” Taisa Mattos

We’re delighted to welcome Taisa Mattos, a Brazilian educator, researcher and internationally recognised trainer who has spent more than 15 years working with ecovillages, sustainability, regenerative education and community life around the world.

Since 2009, Taisa has coordinated and taught Ecovillage Design Education (EDE) programmes internationally.

From 2019–2024, she served as Education, Consultancy and Research Coordinator at the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN International). Today she is Gaia Schools Coordinator at Gaia Education and a Board Member of the International Communal Studies Association (ICSA).

She is also the author of Ecovillages: Building a Regenerative Culture.

Taisa will bring this international experience into a very local question:

What can communities around the world teach us about living differently β€” and what could those ideas mean for Iceland?

🎀 Open sharing β€” the floor is yours

After Taisa's talk, we'd like to hear from the people in the room.

Have you experienced communal or shared living somewhere?

Are you exploring co-housing or a different way of living?

Do you have an idea you've been thinking about, a challenge you've encountered, a perspective you'd like to add β€” or perhaps a dream for how we might live differently?

The floor will be open for anyone who would like to share an experience, an idea, a perspective, a question β€” or a possibility.

Nothing needs to be polished or prepared.

Share if you want to. Or simply listen.

πŸ’¬ Open conversation + audience Q&A

From there, we'll open up a wider conversation with Taisa and everyone in the room.

Could we share more while still having our own space?

Could co-housing and shared spaces help create stronger communities?

What can we learn from ecovillages and intentional communities elsewhere?

What makes communal living work β€” and what makes it difficult?

And what might actually make sense here in Iceland?

🀝 Stay, meet & connect

We'll finish with time for drinks and informal conversation β€” a chance to meet others, exchange ideas and continue the discussion.

You don't need to live communally.

You don't need to have a project.

You don't need to be an expert β€” and you don't have to speak.

If you're curious about different ways we might live and build community in our cities, this evening is for you.

Curiosity is enough.
