About
Fancy getting a hit of nostalgia? A quick blast from the past? Gizmo have something that doesn’t come along every day. Three years ago, the Canadian quartet released their debut EP “Buddy System” (2023), offering up precisely such a gift from yesteryear and blending 1990s guitar-laden power pop with slacker sensibilities for a damn fine day on a summer holiday – or for a well-deserved evening wind-down after a hard day’s work. This familiar, laid-back vibe also dominates their debut album “All Your Worships” (2026), due out in October. But the songs keep pushing forward with instantly catchy hooks and raw vocal energy. This is likely due in part to the production process, often involving 12-hour recording blocks and evening listening sessions fuelled by plenty of beer. Well-measured vintage influences round off the Gizmo sound with nuanced REM-style gothic jangle and rugged Americana à la Red House Painters. In short, they’ve got all the makings of becoming your favourite band – and after their gig here, there’ll be no one left to doubt it.
